In 1676, this hymn was composed by Samuel Rodigast in German, and the English translation was done by Catherine Winkworth in 1863.
Indelible Grace [...]

On Wednesday evenings, we’ve been going through a series of doctrinal studies I’ve called “Christianity 102.” This builds on a series we did on the Apostles’ Creed back in 2006, which covered a very basic outline of Christian doctrine. So far, we’ve studied Revelation (the doctrine, not the book of the Bible by that name), [...]

The Gospel According to St.Mark 16:9-11 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. (10) And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. (11) And they, when they had [...]

It seems to me that more than anything else, the spirit of the Lenten season is about our self-surrender to the God Who by His grace and mercy has saved us. We cannot do anything in our lives to make Him love us any more than He already does–fasting will not impress Him. He has [...]

John Stott, in his book Basic Christian Leadership wrote about the “already” and “not yet” aspects of God’s Kingdom and our personal sanctification as Christians. There are certain aspects of our character that are immediately changed by an encounter with God’s grace at the moment of salvation–but there are other aspects of our lives that [...]

“Thy Kingdom Come”
All believers should pray for the coming of God’s Kingdom. The prophecies He has given us in the Word of God, written, paint a picture for us as to what that day, the Kingdom’s full arrival, holds. Swords will be beat into plowshares, lions will lie down with the lambs. (Isaiah 11) [...]

“Come, Lord, and Tarry Not” By Horatius Bonar (1808-1889)
(text from The Cyber Hymnal™)
Come, Lord, and tarry not;
Bring the long looked for day;
O why these years of waiting here,
These ages of decay?
Come, for Thy saints still wait;
Daily ascends their sigh;
The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come”;
Does Thou not hear the cry?
Come, for creation groans,
Impatient of Thy [...]
