In this clause we learn more about forgiveness. The previous clause instructs us to seek God’s forgiveness for our own transgressions; this clause teaches us to grant it to others. The role of forgiveness in prayer is sometimes overlooked–but not if we take our Lord’s Words to [...]

The mares are hanging out close to the [...]

“And forgive us our trespasses”
In this clause of the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus teaches us about forgiveness.

Forgiveness is inextricably linked to confession [...]

From snowy to icy–I’ve never seen so much freezing rain fall.

O ALL ye works of the Lord, bless ye the Lord: praise Him, and magnify Him forever.
O ye Frost and Cold, bless ye the Lord: praise Him, and magnify Him forever.
O ye Ice and [...]

Here’s the measurement so far. Freezing rain is falling, so that may be cutting down on the accumulation. There’s no good way in or out of the Bluegrass today! Snow and ice, snow and ice–to the North, South East and West.
Needless to say, all eyes are on the sky today, and everyone’s hope is that [...]

Conservative evangelicals come in for plenty of knocks and jabs these days. We come in for lots of nicknames, too, most of them pejorative, and intended to paint us in an unfavorable light. “Fundys” (as in fundamentalists) and “Bible Thumpers” come to mind. Ever been on the receiving end of those terms? Who would want [...]

“Give us this day our daily bread”
“Daily” bread in the Lord’s prayer means both the needs of today, and the needs of the coming day. This clause teaches us to recognize our total dependence on the mercies of God. This petition places us before God as He is our divine provider.
James, in his letter, teaches [...]

According to the Paducah Sun, Jan. 20th marks the 60th anniversary of the swearing in of Alben W. Barkley to the office of Vice President. Mr Barkley served under Harry S Truman.
The Veep (whose grandson gave him that nickname because he couldn’t say “vice president”) was born in Graves Co., KY, and had a long [...]
